How to use Macro Calculator
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a macro and why does tracking them matter?
Macronutrients (macros) are the three main nutrients your body uses for energy: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Tracking them matters because the ratio of each macro determines whether you lose fat, maintain weight, or gain muscle — not just total calories.
What is TDEE and why is it important?
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the total calories your body burns per day including exercise. It's your baseline: eat below it to lose weight, at it to maintain, above it to gain. The Mifflin-St Jeor formula this calculator uses is the most accurate widely available estimation method.
How much protein do I actually need?
For most people the evidence-backed range is 1.6-2.2g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Higher protein preserves and builds muscle, keeps you full longer, and has a higher thermic effect than carbs or fat — meaning you burn more digesting it.
Can I use this for a keto or low-carb diet?
Yes. The keto preset sets macros to 70% fat, 25% protein, and only 5% carbohydrates — typically under 25-50g of carbs per day. The low-carb preset is less restrictive at 30% carbs. Both are fully supported and show exact gram targets.
How often should I recalculate my macros?
Recalculate whenever your weight changes by more than 5kg, your activity level shifts significantly, or your goal changes. Body composition changes alter your TDEE, so your macro targets should evolve with you — typically every 1-3 months.
